Meet the Maker
I'm Judith Kowalski, an artisan living in Quesnel, British Columbia. If I was asked to describe myself, I would say that I am a woman who has a passion for the “homely arts”. I love cooking and baking, canning and preserving, gardening, sewing, nurturing and teaching, and I absolutely adore my husband and family.
My professional career has always focused on teaching and training in Canada and abroad. Prior to taking early retirement, I was contracted to deliver workshops in conjunction with Food Processing Skills Canada and WorkBC. Participants engaged in a series of courses potentially culminating in HAACP Certification depending on their end goal. Delivering these workshops reinforced my deep commitment to food safety practices.
When I took early retirement, I was bitten hard by the entrepreneurial bug. Fortunately for me, I have been able to assuage the urge by melding passion with the ability to generate income. Thus, Bébé Bug Boutique debuted in 2016 with a line of on-trend apparel and accessories for babies and toddlers.
As our business grew so did our inventory, forcing us to rethink our business model. Adding to the mix was an unanticipated move from the Lower Mainland to the North Cariboo.
In the summer of 2019, we made the decision to combine Bébé Bug Boutique and Red Bluff Pickles & Preserves, (our other venture) into one company. We also decided that as of January 1, 2020 we would no longer carry a large inventory of children's apparel, but instead would focus mainly on custom orders.
We are excited that we can now offer our local customers the convenience of ordering our pickles, preserves and baked goods online as well as at The Quesnel Farmers Market and other seasonal venues!
